Understanding Kinesiology and Applied Kinesiology

Dr. Timothy Francis serves as a well-known chiropractor with over 30 years of experience in the field. An expert in various forms of naturopathy including acupuncture and homeopathy, Dr. Timothy Francis also teaches a basic applied kinesiology course at the International College of Applied Kinesiology and contributes articles related to the topic in journals and proceedings.

Applied Kinesiology entails the study of body movements and involves diagnosing and correcting imbalances of energy in a human body. It is based on the philosophy that a human body has an innate ability or energy to heal itself. However, in the advent of some stress, the body may get strained, which may cause weakening of certain muscles and hence the energy flow is disrupted.

Applied kinesiology is used to evaluate the structural, chemical, and mental state of a person’s health by testing biofeedback from the muscles. It is done using both a manual muscle testing method and other conventional diagnosis methods. The practitioner uses treatments like joint manipulation or mobilization, myofascial therapies, acupuncture techniques, dietary management, counseling, and many other methods to restore the energy balance of the body to help it heal. Introduced by an American chiropractor, Dr. George Goodheart, in 1964, applied kinesiology has numerous physical and mental benefits, from healing backaches, asthma, cramps, and addictions, to increasing peace of mind and giving patients better health and energy.

An Introduction to Spinal Manipulation Therapy and Its Benefits

Nevada chiropractor Dr. Timothy Francis has completed extensive training in the areas of homeopathy, naturopathy, and applied kinesiology. He is a diplomate of the International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK) and the British Institute of Homeopathy and has earned a doctor of chiropractic degree, magna cum laude. Dr. Timothy Francis teaches applied kinesiology at the ICAK meetings and maintains his own holistic chiropractic practice.

Spinal manipulation therapy is designed to relieve pressure on the nerves and reduce inflammation in the body by combining nutrition, diet, meridian balancing, herbs, homeopathy, emotional clearing, exercise, and movement of the joints. To perform this type of treatment, chiropractors apply sudden, controlled force to particular joints in the body, which often results in popping noises that are concerning to some. Despite the sounds, spinal manipulation is considered safe and extremely effective when performed by a trained and licensed practitioner.

The primary goal of spinal manipulation is pain relief and correction of the cause of the symptoms. The treatment usually helps patients relieve some or all of the pain in their back, neck, shoulders, and head.

For many patients, pain relief does not come until after several sessions with a chiropractor, but some patients experience relief in just one visit. Because of this pain relief, some patients can reduce their dependence on pain medications and may even avoid surgery. Patients may also experience the benefit of increased flexibility.
